55-Inch TV Full Motion Mounted on a Rock Fireplace in Kennesaw, GA

A Kennesaw, GA homeowner wanted a 55-inch smart TV mounted on the floor-to-ceiling painted rock fireplace in their vaulted great room, above the reclaimed wood beam mantel. Irregular stone is the most demanding surface we mount on, and the wide-open room layout called for a full motion arm so the screen can be aimed at whichever seating group is in use.

The 55-inch panel was centered on the rock chimney breast above the beam mantel and positioned as low as the beam and firebox clearance allowed, which matters even more in a vaulted room where the wall keeps rising above the screen. A full motion articulating arm was anchored into the stone so the TV can extend off the face, swivel toward the seating or the adjacent window wall, and tilt down to correct the high mounting position. Cabling was routed down the stone face and tucked along the mortar line and beam edge to keep the run discreet on an uneven surface.

Rock is not uniform like brick — face thickness, void pockets, and mortar depth vary stone to stone, so each anchor point was sounded and selected on solid stone mass rather than a thin veneer edge or a mortar seam. Holes were hammer-drilled to depth with the stone dust cleared before setting heavy-duty masonry anchors, and the plate was shimmed against the irregular rock profile so it bears flat instead of rocking under load. The bracket was then laser-leveled independently of the stone coursing, cable slack was measured through the arm's full extension, swivel, and tilt travel, and the assembly was fully articulated and load-tested before handoff.

The Kennesaw great room now has a 55-inch screen anchored into solid rock above the beam mantel that swings out and aims wherever the family is sitting, then tucks back flat against the fireplace.
