55-Inch TV Full Motion Mounted Over Shiplap Fireplace in Acworth, GA Living Room

An Acworth, GA homeowner wanted their 55-inch TCL Roku TV mounted above the shiplap-clad fireplace in their living room, sitting just above the chunky wood mantel. A full-motion bracket was chosen so the screen can pull off the wall and angle down toward the sofa or over toward the adjoining room, solving the classic over-fireplace viewing-height problem without changing the room's layout.

The 55-inch TCL Roku TV was centered on the white shiplap chimney breast directly above the rustic wood mantel, framed by the whitewashed stone firebox surround below. A full-motion articulating bracket was installed so the screen extends off the shiplap, tilts down toward seated eye level, and swivels toward the open side of the room. The customer's soundbar sits on the mantel shelf directly beneath the panel, with its cabling routed behind the mantel and shiplap so nothing crosses the face of the fireplace. Heat clearance above the firebox was measured before the mount height was finalized.

Shiplap adds a layer of finished board over the wall, so the bracket had to reach past it into solid framing. Studs were located behind the shiplap with a deep-scan stud finder and confirmed with pilot holes hidden inside the mount footprint, then the full-motion bracket was lag-bolted through the shiplap into two structural studs with extended-length fasteners — critical for an articulating arm, which multiplies leverage at full extension. Fastener holes were placed in the shiplap grooves wherever possible to keep the boards visually intact. Cabling for the TV and mantel soundbar was routed behind the shiplap and mantel, and the assembly was leveled and load-tested through its full extension, tilt, and swivel range.

The Acworth living room now has a 55-inch screen floating cleanly on the shiplap fireplace wall with the soundbar tucked on the mantel and no cables showing. The full-motion arm lets the family pull the TV down and angle it for comfortable seated viewing instead of craning up at a fixed over-fireplace panel, then push it flat when they want the fireplace to be the focal point.
