55-Inch Tilt TV on Tile Fireplace with In-Wall Kit, Atlanta GA
Project Summary
An Atlanta, GA homeowner wanted a 55-inch TV mounted on the gray tile fireplace surround between two custom built-in bookcases, with absolutely no visible wires across the tile. We used a code-compliant in-wall power relocation kit to drop a recessed outlet behind the TV and route the existing cord and HDMI through the tile face into the adjacent built-in cabinet, where the cable box, soundbar power, and surge protector now live completely out of sight.
Installation Details
The 55-inch TV was mounted on a low-profile tilt bracket secured into the framing behind the gray porcelain tile fireplace surround at approximately 56 inches from the floor to screen center, framed perfectly between the two built-in bookcases. A PowerBridge in-wall power relocation kit was installed with the inlet receptacle recessed directly behind the TV and the outlet receptacle relocated into the interior of the right-side built-in cabinet, so the homeowner can plug the TV directly into existing wall power without an unsightly extension cord. Low-voltage HDMI and soundbar cables were run through the same wall cavity and into the cabinet, where all source equipment is now neatly housed.
Professional Techniques Used
Cut-in locations on the tile face were marked precisely and bored using a diamond hole saw with water cooling to prevent cracking the porcelain tile. The wall cavity behind the fireplace surround was scanned for studs, fire blocking, and existing electrical before cutting in the recessed inlet. A code-compliant PowerBridge kit was used so line voltage stays inside the wall — no Romex run through unrated raceways. Low-voltage cables were pulled in the same chase and terminated through a brush plate inside the side cabinet. The tilt bracket was lag-bolted into framing behind the tile, leveled, and the TV was hung and angled downward slightly to defeat overhead can-light glare.
