65-Inch Full Motion TV Mount with New Outlet in Canton, GA Living Room
Project Summary
A Canton, GA homeowner asked us to mount their 65-inch flat-screen TV in the main living room above an existing media console. They wanted a full motion mount so the screen could be angled toward both the sectional and the adjoining kitchen, plus a brand-new electrical outlet installed behind the TV for a completely cord-free wall. The wiring path required drilling cleanly through a wood stud to route power from the nearest circuit into the new outlet box behind the panel.
Installation Details
The 65-inch TV was installed on a heavy-duty full motion articulating bracket, anchored into two wood studs in the living room drywall. Our technicians used a deep-scan stud finder to map the studs, then laser-leveled the wall plate before driving the lag bolts. The TV was set at 44 inches from floor to center for comfortable seated viewing from the sectional. To deliver power directly behind the TV, a new 120V outlet box was cut into the drywall within the bracket's footprint, and the supply line was carefully drilled through an intervening wood stud to reach the existing wall circuit.
Professional Techniques Used
Two wood studs were located and confirmed, and the full motion bracket was through-bolted with grade-8 lag bolts torqued to spec — critical for an articulating mount, where the cantilevered load multiplies stress on the anchors when the arm is extended. For the new outlet, we drilled a code-compliant pass-through hole in the wood stud blocking the wire path, then fished 14/2 Romex through the bored stud into the new recessed outlet box behind the TV. All drilling was done within National Electrical Code stud-bore limits to preserve structural integrity, and the new outlet was wired into the existing wall circuit with proper grounding.
