70-Inch TV Tilt Mounted Above a Drywall Fireplace in Woodstock, GA
A Woodstock, GA homeowner wanted a 70-inch smart TV mounted above their marble tile fireplace with the wood beam mantel left untouched. The wall above the mantel is a framed drywall chase rather than masonry, so the job came down to finding real structure inside that chase and setting the screen at a height that stays comfortable to watch from the sofa.
The 70-inch panel was centered on the drywall chase above the beam mantel and set as low as the mantel projection would allow, which keeps the viewing angle reasonable instead of forcing everyone to crane their neck. A heavy-duty tilt mount was used so the screen can be angled down toward seated eye level and away from the ceiling can lights. Power and HDMI were run down inside the drywall chase and brought out low behind the mantel, so nothing is visible on the finished wall.
We mapped the framing inside the chase with a deep-scan stud finder and confirmed the studs by probing before drilling, because chases above fireplaces are often furred out and rarely have studs where you expect them. The tilt bracket was anchored into two studs with structural lag bolts rated well above the panel weight, and the plate was laser-leveled to the mantel beam and the ceiling line so the screen reads square in the room. Firebox clearance and mantel projection were both measured before setting the height, cable slack was left inside the wall so nothing pulls at full tilt, and the assembly was load-tested before we finished.
The Woodstock living room now has a 70-inch screen sitting tight and level above the tile fireplace, tilted down for comfortable seated viewing and free of any visible cords. The mount is bolted into real framing inside the chase, the beam mantel and tile were left undamaged, and the work is backed by our 5-year workmanship warranty.
