85-Inch TV Flat Mounted on Tile Fireplace in Powder Springs, GA Living Room

A Powder Springs, GA homeowner wanted their new 85-inch TV mounted flat against the full-height marble-look tile fireplace in their two-story living room. With a large panel over a tiled chimney breast, the goals were a tight, gap-free look, drilling that would not crack a single tile, and a soundbar sitting cleanly on the floating wood mantel with no wires in sight.

The 85-inch panel was centered on the porcelain tile chimney breast above the floating wood mantel, using a low-profile fixed mount so the screen sits nearly flush to the tile and reads like part of the fireplace wall. Because the seating in this room sits back from the fireplace, a flat mount keeps the viewing angle comfortable without the bulk of an articulating arm. The customer's Bose soundbar was placed on the mantel shelf directly beneath the TV, with power and HDMI routed behind the tile and mantel so nothing shows on the face of the fireplace.

Large-format porcelain tile is unforgiving, so every hole was laid out first and drilled with diamond-tipped bits at low speed with water cooling, starting through masking tape to stop the bit from wandering across the glazed surface. Anchor points were placed in the center of tile fields, away from edges and grout lines where cracking starts, and set into the solid substrate behind the tile with masonry-rated hardware rated far above the 85-inch panel's weight. The plate was laser-leveled across the full width of the wall — critical at 85 inches, where even a slight tilt is obvious against straight tile joints — and cabling for the TV and soundbar was fished behind the mantel before a final load test.
