Wondering how to hang a tv on a brick fireplace? It's one of the most common requests we get across Metro Atlanta. Done right, it's a 90-minute install. Done wrong, it's a cracked brick face and a ruined TV.
Step 1: Plan for Heat
Minimum 6" between mantel and TV bottom. Use an IR thermometer to test wall temp during full fire output. See Heat Shielding.
Step 2: Choose the Right Mount
For most Atlanta homes, a MantelMount is the right choice. Fixed mounts only work if the mantel is low and viewing distance is long.
Step 3: Drill Into Brick — Not Mortar
Hammer drill, carbide masonry bit, drill the brick face only. Mortar joints are weak and crumble.
Step 4: Use Sleeve Anchors
Rated 4–5× the TV+bracket weight. Hand-tighten — never power-drive.
Step 5: Conceal the Cables
Route through a masonry chase or surface raceway. Pair with recessed outlet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to hang a TV above a brick fireplace?
Yes, with proper heat clearance, the right anchors, and ideally a MantelMount.
Should I drill into brick or mortar?
Always brick. Mortar is far weaker and crumbles around anchors.
What bit do I need?
Carbide masonry bit with a hammer drill.
How much does a brick fireplace TV mount cost?
$199–$349+ standard, $399–$599 with MantelMount.
Can I do it myself?
You can, but the cost of a cracked brick face usually exceeds professional installation.
